Create or join

  1. Sign in and create a room in Rooms.
  2. Open the room. Its header shows Code: with buttons to copy the code or show it as a QR code.
  3. Others enter the code and choose Join, or scan the QR with the button next to Join. No account is needed to join.
The code is a private invitation, so the Rooms list does not show it; it appears only inside the open room. Only joined members see the room’s details.

Who can join

Join requests appear at the top of the creator’s room chat, with Approve and Decline. While waiting, the requester’s Rooms list shows Waiting for approval; the trash icon cancels the request. A request also ends when the requester disconnects. Only the room’s creator sees its gear icon in Rooms, where access can be changed at any time. Switching away from Private admits everyone still waiting. To choose the default for new rooms, use Approve who joins my rooms in Settings: on for Private, off for Protected. Each account can own two active rooms. Creating a third removes its oldest room and that room’s pending server content.

Send to the group

Open the room to chat, see its members, or send a file. Dropping a file on a joined room sends it to every member. In a room, only the creator sees the Via server switch. Content is end-to-end encrypted in both delivery modes: The default maximum is 20 members per room. Operators can change it in configuration.

Leave or reconnect

  • A disconnected member appears away and keeps a seat for up to three hours by default.
  • Choosing Leave room gives up the seat immediately.
  • After a reload, rejoin to keep your seat.
  • A room ends when its last seat is released or expires. A server restart also removes rooms.
Returning members can recover history that others still hold. File entries may return without the file itself; Gone means no available copy remains. See messages and files for saving and expiry.
